María Fernanda Wray

With over 25 years of dedication to strategic communication, María Fernanda (everybody calls her Mafer for short) Wray has extensive experience in the field of human rights and environmental advocacy in Mexico and her native Ecuador. As an expert in designing communication strategies and advocacy campaigns, she has crafted compelling narratives across various formats and platforms, including web and digital, editorial products, social media content, written stories, photography, video, and film.

In her role as the Head of External Communication at PODER, a Latin American human rights advocacy organization, Mafer led the strategy to raise awareness about the negative impacts of the extractive industry in Latin America. Her work in Sonora, Mexico, stands out for its collaborative and participatory approach to communication actions that have focused attention on the affected individuals and communities.

In addition to her valuable experience in human rights, Mafer has served as a consultant for various governmental and civil society organizations, contributing her expertise in strategic communication and her ability to engage with national and international media.

Mafer holds a degree in Communication from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana of Mexico City and a master's in journalism and digital communication from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona and the Universidad Carlos III of Madrid. Currently, she resides in Mexico City, where she also has a studio for visual arts, where she creates collage and mixed-media works.
